Petsmart, the nation’s largest specialty retailer of services and solutions for the lifetime needs of pets, has signed a lease with Garden Commercial Properties at Newburgh Plaza, the open air retail center in this Orange County, N.Y. Town.

The Phoenix, AZ-based company will occupy a 20,000 square-foot free-standing building at the new 32-acre retail complex, indicates Joseph Korn, Vice President of Development for Short Hills, N.J.-based Garden Commercial Properties.  The new building will be part of the second  retail phase at Newburgh Plaza.

“The signing of Petsmart signifies another significant step in the redevelopment of Newburgh Plaza,” Mr. Korn says.  “The prominent chain follows in the footsteps of Kohl’s Department Stores as national retailers who have identified this center as a prime shopping destination for residents throughout the Hudson Valley and beyond.”

Kohl’s Department Store recently signed an 89,000 square foot lease to occupy a free-standing building which will replace the former Lloyd’s Department Store at the shopping center.  Construction on the new building is already underway.

The two national retailers will join Home Depot as tenants at Newburgh Plaza, points out
Michael Gartenberg, Director of Leasing for Garden Commercial Properties.

“This center will offer an ideal shopping experience for local residents by providing nationally-recognized stores, such as Kohl’s, Petsmart and Home Depot, in a location that is easily accessible,” Mr. Gartenberg says.

Situated at the intersection of Old Little Britain Road and Route 300 in Newburgh, Newburgh Plaza is easily reached from Routes 84, 87 and 17K.
